Retirement Communities: Generally resemble neighborhoods; Sometimes gated/security provided; Usual maintenance/grounds keeper provided; Onsite Manager; Residents are completely independent and can keep driving; Private Pay, sometimes based on income.

Independent Living Communities: Single cottage-style or apartments; Director on site; Common dining/activity space (clubhouse); Daily checks/calls; Residents independent but can often contract-out assistance for lower-levels of care; Private Pay and VA Aid and Attendance
